DIY Pumpkin Pie Banner – Perfect Craft for the Kids!

This was a fun little project that is perfect for little kids to create. With the weather getting colder, I am always looking for things to keep the kids entertained inside and who doesn’t love pumpkin pie? This would be a great easy decor for a family Thanksgiving and chances are, you already have all the needed supplies in your pantry.

You will need…

  • Paper plates
  • Rope or yarn
  • Paint (brown and peach)
  • Paint brushes
  • Glue
  • Foaming shaving cream
  • Scissors
  • Pumpkin pie spice

Let’s get started!

  1. First you will want to cut your paper plates into pie pieces. These don’t have to be perfect. I cut them each in six “slices”. Be sure to supervise this step if you have younger children.

2. Now comes time to paint! Use the brown paint to create the “crust” and the peach paint for the “pumpkin filling” and allow them to dry.

3. Next we will create the “whipped cream”. Did you know you can create “puffy paint” from glue and shaving cream? Simply mix equal parts foaming shaving cream and white school glue. If you are using this recipe to create a “puffy paint” of a different color, you can add an equal part of paint as well but since I wanted the “whipped cream” to be white, I skipped adding paint. Once you have mixed the “puffy paint”, you can add a glob of “whipped cream” to each pie piece.

4. While the “whipped cream” is still wet, sprinkle a little pumpkin pie spice on top. This step isn’t necessary but I thought it was a fun little addition…and it makes the finished banner smell faintly like pumpkin pie!

5. Allow all the pie pieces to thoroughly dry and then glue the pieces to the rope or yarn. I spaced mine about 6-8’ apart but you can space them however you would like.

And that’s it! Hang up your pumpkin pie banner and let your kids show off their hard work!
